Traditional leasing like North American and US Leasing have given way to conglomerates like Wells Fargo and even General Electric! I see DWC centrebeams and second-hand covered hoppers. The railways have found it cheaper to recycle moribund reporting marks like DWC and have leasing companies provide cars. Not to mention the rise of tank cars and covered hoppers which also contributes. CN and CP still do provide grain cars though, what with the decline of Wheat Board cars.

Thanks for your comment! Remember, the trains always pass after we go home!
EricErichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11822288099043790296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-372955869775302424.post-48883049157883324152021-09-28T09:32:10.067-04:002021-09-28T09:32:10.067-04:00Man; that's a whole lot of CN cars on that CN ...Man; that's a whole lot of CN cars on that CN train. I usually don't see that many. I'm starting to think that CN is exiting the freight car business and letting TBOX provide them.
Do you see DWC cars in increasing numbers?
I think I do but don't get enough freights to say anything definitively.
I was out for several hours on the Saturday of Labour Day weekend and didn't even see a darn train!
Such is the life of a Train Watcher.
Robert Archerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16192837894697698725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-372955869775302424.post-69323533320005316692016-10-19T20:45:05.031-04:002016-10-19T20:45:05.031-04:00Thanks for your rolling stock enthusiasm, Steve. We need more of it!

These trains brought home to me that not only are there fewer RR-owned cars being built, but many of the formerly RR-owned cars are being picked up by leasing companies.

Always neat to see the passing show, and on CN freights, with fewer units than ever, the locomotives are even more outnumbered by the freight cars. Good times!
EricErichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11822288099043790296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-372955869775302424.post-28944989939772429732016-10-18T23:50:40.673-04:002016-10-18T23:50:40.673-04:00Lots of interesting freight cars!
